The Hunt of Your Life
Do you ever feel like your life is a giant puzzle with some key pieces missing? You constantly stay busy but yet you don't feel like you're accomplishing anything. It seems like the trajectory of your life is consistently missing the target. And usually the only peace in life you find is in the outdoors...but even that is only temporary peace. Sometimes it feels like you are drifting through life from one crisis to another without an anchor.
Guys, there's good news: YOU ARE NOT ALONE! At some point all of us are searching in our lives for something. After we've climbed the ladder at work, purchased all the toys, and have lots of heads dislayed in our "trophy room" then we ask ourselves a very important question: is this all there is to life? It doesn't matter if you are a doctor, lawyer, engineer, painter, carpenter, or farmer; all of us have to ask this question.
Maybe we're not just chasing big bucks in life but rather we are in the hunt for something much more important: TRUTH! Why does life not make sense?
Well, in typical guy fashion the last thing we want to do is read the instructions. But in fact God has explained all of this to us in the Bible. The Bible IS our anchor in life because it is the TRUTH. First, we must understand that "there is none righteous, no, not one" (Romans 3:10). You may think that your buddy has got it all together but he doesn't. He is just like you and probably struggles with the same sins you do. As men (and women for that matter), apart from God there is no good in us. In fact "all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). But thankfully God loved us enough to make a provision for our sin (John 3:16). If I break the laws of this country then when my day in court comes I'm going to have to pay the penalty. In the same manner, on the day of judgement someone will have to pay the penalty for breaking God's laws. Jesus paid that penalty for us on the cross, not because of His sins but because of ours.
Think about fishing tournaments....every tournament has its own set of rules. If you don't follow the rules you lose the tournament no matter how many fish you catch. Well some people think that Christianity is about following the "tournament rules." Sadly that is not the case at all. God told us "for it is by grace you have been saved through faith...not by works so that no one can boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9). Being a Christian man is not about going to church or keeping a set of rules, rather it is a relationship with the God of the Universe.
If you love the Great Outdoors then you probably already know that there is a God. In fact, when we experience a sunrise in the deerstand we really have no excuse but to acknowledge the creation of an Almighty God (Romans 1:20). Since God does exist then how can we know Him? Well that is easy, just read the instructions (the Bible). If you are ready to finally put all of the pieces together in your life then bow your head and pray. Admit to God that you are sinner. Then, ask God for forgiveness (1 John 1:9). And finally ask God to take the steering wheel of your life. But don't go this road alone. Talk to another man in your life about this decision. Brother....that will be the best hunt of your life!
